What is 'Missing Purchase History' warning? How to fix it?

Modified on Mon, 01 May 2023 at 01:47 PM

'Missing Purchase History' arises when we can’t ascertain the purchase history for a particular token that you have in your wallet that you might have gotten from somewhere else.

This warning indicates that you are withdrawing (or selling) more than you had in your wallet / exchange at that time. (when someone is trying to sell but has no history of holding that asset in their wallet).

Why this happens?

There can be multiple reasons for this error to happen, all of which can be categorized as “inaccurate data”.

● Missing transaction history for previous years

● Gaps in the transaction history - some transactions are missing

● Duplicate transactions imported

● Some CSV files were imported in the wrong time zone

● Missing airdrops, forks, signup bonuses

● Double-counted trade fees

Fixing 'Missing Purchase History' Warning

In this example, you can see that a user has added a WazirX wallet. After importing his transactions, the user sees that there are 17 warnings.

  • Click on red box under 'Warnings' header.

  • A dialogue box will open on the right hand side - 'Troubleshooting Connection'. We can see there are 15 Missing Purchase History errors in his wallet.

  • User has the option to 'Fix Now' all these errors. Once the user clicks the Fix Now button, all the errors get exported onto an excel file.

  • Here is the errors exported sheet. The user needs to give us the 'Cost of Purchase' for each of these missing purchase history transactions. (A missing purchase history error occurs when the user has not given the deposit history or some portion of the token has a missing cost basis. This can be corrected only by the user by giving us his complete trading data. As a user, you can select the transaction type from Column D and enter the cost of purchase, fees (if any) applied and the TDS (if any) deducted for each of these error transactions.

  • Once the user is ready with their corrected excel sheet, they need to upload it back in the 'Upload the Correct Sheet here' section. After uploading the corrected sheet, user needs to click on 'Re-Sync Wallet'.

  • After the wallet completes re-syncing, all the error warnings on the users wallet get resolved.
